Here are some notes to help you in leading prayer at church on a Sunday.
- Prepare what you are going to be praying about in advance. It is good to plan your prayers using categories (global issues, national issues, city, church, individuals) to make sure we pray for a good selection of things.
- Get some prayer points from our link missionaries (contact Andrew or Claire if not sure where to find them).
- Use the Bible to shape your prayers! If you're not sure what to pray, take a look at the Psalms or even the beginning of many of Paul's letters.
- Is there a prayer in the passage being preached on this week, or in the book we’re preaching through? You could use those.
- If you want to use a set prayer (Lord's Prayer or Confession), contact Andrew to have it placed into the slides for Sunday.
- Your prayers don't need to be long winded or use big words. Aim for about 5 mins but less is fine too.
- On Sunday touch base with the service leader so that they know you are ready.
- When it comes time to pray (usually after the song that comes after the sermon) go right up to the microphone.
- At Morning & Hutt Church the Service Leader will give you a hand held microphone for the prayer leading. This needs to be held quite close to your mouth, like your eating an ice cream! At Night Church we use the lecturn microphone. This needs to be pointing at the middle of your face and not too close to your mouth.
- Introduce yourself, announce that we are now going to pray and invite people to pray with you.
- PRAY!
